The Geese!

The Geese are back!

Each year, Canadian Geese arrive in Southport, to remind us that Autumn has arrived. Every morning, they fly in formation over the houses and businesses of the town, heading out to the marshes for a days feeding, then every evening, back they go inland, to the warmth and protection of the inland fields. Thousands and thousands of Geese, flying in their distinctive ‘V’, helping each other along the way, honking out encouragement to the weakest. A remarkable site!

The Quite Interesting History of Southport

Here is quite an interesting piece of Southport history….that might just surprise as well as explain….

Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte lived in exile on Lord Street, the main thoroughfare of Southport, between 1846 and 1848, before returning to France, where he became President and subsequently Emperor of the French. During his reign, he caused much of the medieval centre of Paris to be replaced with broad tree-lined boulevards, covered walkways and arcades, just like Lord Street. On the strength of this coincidence, it has been suggested that the redevelopment may have been inspired by memories of Southport’s town centre.

Vintage Homes, Wayfarers Arcade, Southport.

A few days ago, it was my wife’s birthday – I won’t say what age because she doesn’t count any more. But she was delighted when a couple of her friends arrived to give her some birthday presents – all bought from a shop in Southport, called Vintage Home. The presents were really special, they were a bit different to the normal “store bought” gift, and fit in well with our home. But as well as that, they were wrapped individually by Jill at Vintage Home, in her own attractive style, complete with gift tags. My wife was thrilled. Not just with the presents, but with the fun of opening the attractively wrapped gifts. Ok, she was pleased also with the Mario Cart for Wii that I bought her, but even I had to acknowledge that getting a birthday present wrapped in supermarket gift paper isn’t quite the same birthday experience as opening a gift individually wrapped by Jill at Vintage Home!!!

So….if you are looking for something a bit different, a bit special, visit Vintage Homes in Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street.
